WHY IT MATTERS

Indoor Air Pollution is a serious health problem! So much so that the Environmental Protection Agency has classified indoor air quality as being among the top 5 most urgent environmental risks to public health in the United States. The American Lung Association says that in office buildings, heating, cooling and ventilation systems are frequent sources of biological substances that lead to breathing problems; while the American Asthma & Allergy foundation says that Asthma and Allergies account for 10.1 million missed workdays - and $3.7 billion in lost productivity - each year. In a recent article from a highly reputable international media organization, it was reported that "researchers for the first time have linked air pollution exposure before birth with lower IQ scores in childhood, bolstering evidence that smog may harm the developing brain". Evidence is also mounting worldwide, that the nanometer particles found in indoor air pollution are a contributor to heart disease, as well as to other respiratory ailments. In the extensive study "Clean Air for Europe", researchers have estimated that 360,000 people in the EU's 25 member states die prematurely each year due to air particle contamination.

At the heart of the DEP Technology is a unique, patented paper filter, which allows for extremely high efficiencies, without emitting Ozone.


HOW IT WORKS

DEP (Disposable Electrostatic Precipitation) Technology is based on the classic two step electrostatic filter technology, excluding it's unintended consequences. Instead of using electrical conductive particle precipitators made of metal, the DEP Technology uses high resistive plastic coated paper, thereby providing the following advantages:

  1. The risk of electrical breakdown between precipitating electrodes and short circuit of the filter is eliminated.
  2. Ozone generation is negligible.
  3. The spacing between the electrodes can be much smaller (adjustable to fit the application) than in traditional electrostatic filters, resulting in a higher electrical field between the plates and much better particle precipitation.
  4. The pressure drop across the filter is very low, but still provides for nano-particle filtration.
  5. The paper-based filters weigh much less than traditional plate filters, and are therefore much easier to install in commercial applications.
  6. The paper filters may be washed, vacuumed, or very quickly and inexpensively replaced.
